At 2386 m, Maglić is the highest mountain in Bosnia and Herzegovina . It is located on the border with Montenegro in the Dinaric Mountains , about 25 kilometers as the crow flies south of Foča and 21 kilometers northeast of Gacko .

The Maglić massif is located in the southeast of Bosnia and Herzegovina or in northwest Montenegro between the valleys of the Sutjeska in the west and the Piva , a source river of the Drina , in the east. The north side of the Maglić is located in the Sutjeska National Park and is part of the Perućica reserve, which includes one of the last primeval forests in Europe. The source of the Sutjeska is located southwest of the mountain. The highest mountain in Montenegro, the Bobotov Kuk ( 2522  m ) in Durmitor is about 30 kilometers away as the crow flies; however, the deeply cut Piva Gorge is located between the two mountain ranges.
