Magne Sæbø

Magne Sæbø (born January 23, 1929 in Kvinnherad ) is a Norwegian Lutheran Old Testament scholar .

biography

In 1956 he passed his theological exam . In 1963 he found a job at the Menighetsfakultet (community faculty ) in Oslo and received his doctorate in 1969 on Zechariah 9-14. From 1968 to 1979 he headed the translation committee for the Old Testament at the Norwegian Bible Society , on whose board he was also active. He was chairman of the board of the Norwegian Israel Mission. In 1970 he became professor of the Old Testament at the Menighets Faculty. In 1999 he retired .

Sæbø is co-editor of Biblia Hebraica Quinta .

Sæbø is a Knight of the Saint Olav Order and holder of the Fridtjov Nansen Medal for outstanding research. He is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences , the Scientific Society for Theology , the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament and the Nathan Söderblom Society.
