Magnus Uggla

Per Allan Magnus Claësson Uggla [ ˌmaŋːnɵs ˈɵgːla ] (born June 18, 1954 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish rock and pop musician , artist and actor .

Life

Magnus Uggla started his first band in 1968 together with his neighbors in Nacka . The band name was JUSO, which was an amalgamation of the first letters of the surname of the members. They played music inspired by Black Sabbath with songs like Skogen brinner (The forest burns) and Domedagen (Last Judgment). After his parents divorced, Uggla left the group and moved with his father to downtown Stockholm.

Ugglas' first own pieces were strongly influenced by British punk and rock music, but also by synth pop and symphonic rock . His 1975 debut album was called Om Bobbo Viking . Uggla, like David Bowie and other musicians of the time, was depicted heavily made up on the cover. His real breakthrough came in 1977 with the album Va ska man ta livet av sig för när man ändå inte får hears snacket efteråt? (Why should you kill yourself if you can't hear the gossip afterwards?). The success tempted him in 1979 to take part with the song Johnny the Rocker in the Swedish elimination for the Eurovision Song Contest , but where he finished last.

In the 1980s Ugglas music developed more towards pop. The 1983 album Välkommen till folkhemmet had a series of satirical texts that would later become Ugglas' trademarks. He worked on a revue by comedian Povel Ramel and had his own show from 1997 to 1998, which went through the Swedish inns. In recent times Uggla has partly returned to its rock roots. In the Swedish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 he took part with the contribution För kung och fosterland , but could not qualify in the preliminary round for the final in Stockholm.

His awards include seven “rock bears” ( Rockbjörnar ), three of which he received for best Swedish music album and four for best Swedish musician of the year.
