The island of Mahaba is located in the northeast off the coast of Mindanao in the archipelago of the Cuatro Islands. It belongs to the Province of Surigao del Norte in the Philippines and is administered from the municipality of Hinatuan . The next larger mainland parish is Tagana-an , 10 km away, and the next larger port is Placer , about 15 km away.

The Mahaba Island Protected Landscape and Seascape was established on December 29, 1991 based on Decree 2152 of the Government of the Philippines. The reserve is also mentioned in Article No. 5d of the NIPAS Act (Republic Act 7586) of 1992.

The nature reserve has a size of 5,704 hectares and includes the entire island of Mahaba and the adjacent marine areas. The highest point on the island is only one meter above sea level, and the soil is classified as barren sand and clay soil . There are some mangrove forests on the island , which are dominated by the genera Bakauan ( Rhizophora ) , Pagatpat and Pototan. In the interior of the island there are some forests with the coconut palm as a tree species. The island's wildlife is dominated by birds.

Another island, Mahaba, is in the Camotes Sea .
