Mahabo , also Mahabo Atsimo ( which makes it grow tall ), is a community ( commune ) in the Anosy region in southern Madagascar . In 2010 it had about 12,000 inhabitants, most of whom belong to the Bara . It administers an area of 1500 km².
The inhabitants of Mahabo live mainly from rice , cassava and maize cultivation ; to a lesser extent, beans , peanuts and sugar cane are planted. Mahabo is about 35 kilometers away from Betroka , the capital of the Betroka district , on a bad road, the security situation is mediocre.
