The Mahaut River rises at a foothill of the Morne Jaune and flows steeply to the east and flows into the Atlantic Ocean in Rosalie Bay over the cliffs. Above the coastal road it forms the small waterfall Twa Bassens (3 Basins; ⊙ ).
Adjacent streams are Ravine Mouton to the north and River Bibiay to the south. Several other bodies of water in Dominica have similar names, such as the Kuerek (Mahaut River) further north in the Carib Territory and the Ravine Mahaut near Petite Soufrièré .
