Mahmoud Messadi
Mahmoud Messadi ( Arabic محمود المسعدي, DMG Maḥmūd al-Masʿadī ; * January 28, 1911 in Tazarka ; † December 16, 2004 in La Marsa ) was a Tunisian writer and politician .
Mahmoud Messadi is considered the founder of a special literary school in the Arab world. He “belongs to the few modern authors of the 20th century who have succeeded in portraying the oriental-Arab soul, including its size and contradictions, in an artistically unmasking way”.
Messadi graduated from the Collège Sadiki in Tunis and studied Arabic language and literature at the Sorbonne in Paris . After Tunisia's independence (1956) he was Minister of Education (1958–1968), then Minister of Culture (1973–1976).
The modernization of the Tunisian education system and the establishment of the Tunisian university go back to him.
