The Maignan Point ( French Pointe Maignan ) is a headland that forms the northeastern end of Cholet Island in the Wilhelm Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located directly in front of the northwestern part of Booth Island and marks the west side of the entrance to Port Charcot .
Participants in the Fourth French Antarctic Expedition (1903–1905) were the first to map the headland. The expedition leader and polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot named it after the sailor F. Maignan, who had died when the expedition ship Français left the port of Le Havre on August 15, 1903 while handling the eighth rope. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated this designation into English in 1952.
