The Main Bridge Niedernberg – Sulzbach is a road bridge in Lower Franconia that spans the Main at river kilometers 97.980 . The structure has two lanes and a footpath and cycle path on both sides. It provides a connection to the right- Main Main municipalities Sulzbach am Main and Kleinwallstadt to the federal highway 469 near Niedernberg .
The 318 m long bridge was built between 2000 and 2001 for 16.5 million D-Marks (8.4 million euros). It consists of a foreland bridge on the left bank of the Main with two openings, each with a span of 28 m, a four-span foreland bridge on the right-hand side of the Main, each with a span of 28 m, and the 150 m-wide river bridge. The pillars and abutments are founded on piles.
The approach bridges are prestressed concrete structures , with the continuous girder as a structural system in the longitudinal direction and a single-web T-beam cross- section . The river bridge consists of a steel arched bridge construction . The arches, with a stitch of about 23.75 m, are inclined towards each other and connected to each other by clasps. However, the hangers, which are attached to the cross members every 6.8 m, are not arranged vertically, as usual, but diagonally and crossed. This type of bridge, which is rare in Germany, is also called the Nielsen Bridge after its inventor . The inclined hangers made of 80 mm round steel enable the stiffening girders of the river bridge to have the same construction height of around 1.50 m as for the approach bridges. The 30 cm thick deck is designed as a composite structure . The bridge has a total width of 14.25 m at the cross girders, which are at a distance of 6.8 m. The arches arranged on both sides have a box-girder cross-section, a width of 1.1 m and a height of 1.25 m at the top.
The main bridge was assembled on the left bank next to the pillars. Then this construction with a mass of around 900 tons was pushed into its final position. Self-propelled platform trucks and pontoons were used for this purpose. On August 4th, 2018 the bridge was renamed "Roland-Schwing-Brücke".
