Main ferry Mainsondheim
The Main ferry Mainsondheim is a passenger and car ferry on the Main , which runs all year round between the Dettelbach district of Mainsondheim and the town of Dettelbach itself in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .
history
The beginning of the ferry traffic between Mainsondheim and Dettelbach is in the dark. It was not until 1555 that the owner of the Mainsondheim lordship, Wolf von Crailsheim , agreed to allow the ferry to go to Schwarzenau if the mayor of Dettelbach so wished. This first mention was followed by many other mentions of the ferry connection. The ferry was still used as security in the 16th century and therefore changed hands frequently.
With Wilhelm Bayer from Grettenbach in Austria , between 1604 and 1607 a ferryman became available for the first time. In 1607, the Mainsondheim lordship finally bought back the ferry. The owners of the manor in Mainsondheim also remained the owners of the ferry rights until the 20th century ; it was not until 1958 that the rights of the municipality were transferred. There had been disputes over the use of the ferry since the 1920s.
Ferrymen
The names of the ferrymen have been passed down almost entirely since the 17th century. They had the ferry rights, leased from the rulers, mostly only for a few years and came from the vicinity of Mainsondheim.
