history
Gas supply association Obertshausen 1907–2002
The Obertshausen Gas Supply Association (GVVO) was founded by the municipalities of Obertshausen, Hausen, Lämmerspiel and Heusenstamm in 1907. It began with the establishment of a gasworks on its own after Dietzenbach was accepted into the association. The gasworks went into operation a year later. In 1909 the communities Weiskirchen and Hainhausen were included in the GVVO. In 1922, self-generation through coal gasification was discontinued and municipal gas was now purchased by the Offenbach municipal utilities. In 1929, the Offenbach public utilities stopped generating their own gas, and gas was now purchased from Main-Gaswerke Frankfurt via the Offenbach public utility. The gas supply collapsed completely due to the Second World War in 1945. The effects of the war and a rapid expansion of the gas supply took place after 1945.
The community of Jügesheim joined the GVVO in 1962. In 1970 the supply was switched to natural gas.
Maingau from 2002
The GVVO was reorganized into MAINGAU Energie GmbH and rhenag became a strategic partner in 2002. The start of electricity sales in the Rhine-Main region began in 2007. Expansion of gas sales to the federal state of Hesse with subsequent expansion to the entire federal territory will follow in 2008. The expansion of electricity sales throughout Germany in 2011.
