Maintirano is a city on the west coast of Madagascar with about 16,000 inhabitants (2001). It is the capital of the Melaky region . The national roads RN 1b , RN 8a and RN 19 end in the village or in its vicinity . Most of the inhabitants belong to the Sakalava ethnic group .
