Maipó Shoal ( Spanish Bajo Maipó ) is a shoal in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . In Discovery Bay on Greenwich Island , it is 440 m southwest of González Island at a water depth of 8 m below sea level .
Scientists of the 2nd Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1947–1948) named it after the tanker Maipó , one of the ships on the expedition. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee translated this designation into English in 2008.
