Maison romane in Provins

The Maison novels in Provins , a town in the Seine-et-Marne in the region Ile-de-France , is a Romanesque building from the 12th century. Since 1941 it has been a cultural monument ( Monument historique ) and is a listed building .

history

The limestone maison romane is located at 12, rue du Palais. In the Middle Ages , the Jewish quarter was here , which is why it is assumed that the synagogue or a Jewish school could have been in the house . In the 14th century the house was owned by Pierre d'Orgemont, a converted Jew. After the building had been used as a school for a long time in modern times, it came into the possession of the Société d'Histoire et d'Archéologie de L'Arrondissement de Provins in 1950, which set up a regional museum ("Musée du Provinois") in it.

architecture

The house with arched windows has a large vaulted cellar . An octagonal column from the 12th century has been preserved.
