The Majestic was a White Star Line ship .

Ship life

The Majestic was launched on June 29, 1889 in Belfast at the Harland & Wolff shipyard . On April 2, 1890, she ran on her maiden voyage from Liverpool via Queenstown to New York . After about a year, the Majestic won the Blue Ribbon , which it received for the fastest transatlantic voyage at a speed of 20.10 kn in the period from July 30th to August 5th, 1891. However, within a few days this was chased away from her sister ship, the Teutonic .

Since December 1899, the Majestic took part in the Boer War as a troop transport . This mission lasted until March 1900. During this time , the ship was commanded by Captain Edward John Smith , who later became the Titanic's commander.

From 1902 to 1903 the Majestic was rebuilt in Belfast at Harland & Wolff. New boilers were installed here, the two chimneys lengthened and the second mast removed. After the conversion, the ship had 10,147 GRT.

On June 26, 1907, she made her first voyage from Southampton via Cherbourg to New York. In 1911 she was launched as a reserve ship, but after the Titanic sank, the Majestic was reactivated. On October 17, 1913, she took part in the rescue of the crew of the sinking French schooner Garonne .

At the beginning of 1914 she was taken out of service. On May 5, 1914, she reached Morecambe , where she was scrapped.
