Political career

However, he only achieved 7.7% of the vote and thus took fourth place. In the general election in the following year, he was able to increase his result in the same constituency to 9.1%, but still only ended up in fourth place, far behind. In the 1997 elections , his party put him as a candidate for the seat of outgoing MP Robert Hughes in the Aberdeen North constituency . Here Savidge succeeded with a lead of 10,010 votes or 26.1% against the second-placed candidate of the Scottish National Party , Brian Adam . He was able to increase this lead again when he was re-elected in 2001 . During his time as a MP he was a member of the Environment Committee and was instrumental in drafting the Sunday Working (Scotland) Act 2003 . Before the general election in 2005 , there was a shift in the constituencies, so that the electoral district of Aberdeen Central, which had been represented by Frank Doran until then, was eliminated. Thereupon it came between him and Savidge to an internal party vote for the candidacy in the constituency of Aberdeen North. Doran prevailed against Savidge, who then withdrew from politics.
