Karin Mamma Andersson , also called Mamma Andersson , (born February 28, 1962 ; real name Karin Andersson ) is a Swedish artist.

Works by Karin Mamma Andersson can be seen at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Moderna Museet in Stockholm.

Her paintings are often dreamlike and expressive, where melancholy landscapes or inconspicuous interiors acquire a wealth of associations during the creation process that suggests an underlying narrative.

Career

Andersson received his artistic training at Konstfack and the Kungliga Konsthögskolan Stockholm . She adopted the artist name "Mamma" at an exhibition at the art college.

She had her international breakthrough in 2003 when she represented Sweden at the Venice Biennale . In 2005 she won first prize at the Carnegie Art Award (2006).

In 2010, Luleå University of Technology awarded Karin Mamma Andersson an honorary doctorate .
