description

Mammillaria beneckei initially grows individually and later forms large cushions of up to 50 centimeters in diameter, which sometimes become even larger. The plant bodies are depressed, spherical to short cylindrical. They are green to greenish brown up to 10 centimeters in height and up to 7 centimeters in diameter. The warts are soft, broadly conical in shape, often tinged with reddish or purple. You don't have milk juice . The axillae are covered with sparse bristles and little wool. The 2 to 6  central spines are needle-like, brown or black, of different lengths and between 0.8 and 1.2 inches long. Sometimes they are also partially hooked. The 12 to 16 radial spines are fine, needle-like, white or yellow with a dark tip and 0.6 to 0.8 inches long.

The broad, funnel-shaped, bright yellow and fragrant flowers are 2.5 to 3 inches long with an equally large diameter. The elongated to obovate, gray-green fruits contain brown, pitted seeds .

Mammillaria beneckei is a widespread and very variable taxon, both in terms of plant size and thorns, as well as the flower color (various shades of yellow to almost orange). Some clones are prone to sprouting abundantly.
