Mammillaria blossfeldiana is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the German gardener Robert Blossfeld († 1945).

description

Mammillaria blossfeldiana usually grows individually, sometimes in groups. The plant bodies are spherical to short cylindrical in shape. They are gray-green and grow up to 5 inches high and 3 to 4 inches in diameter. The warts are conical in shape and have no milky sap . The axillae are covered with sparse wool. The 4  central spines are dark brown to black in color and are 1 to 1.2 centimeters long, with the bottom sticking out and hooked while the top ones are straight. The 15 to 20 radial spines are yellow with a dark tip and 0.5 to 0.7 inches long.

The funnel-shaped flowers are white with pink to carmine red central stripes. They become 2 centimeters long and have a diameter of 2 to 4 centimeters. The fruits are club-shaped and orange-red in color. They contain black, pitted seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria blossfeldiana is common in the Mexican states of Baja California and Baja California Sur .

It was first described in 1931 by Friedrich Bödeker .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Near Threatened (NT) ", d. H. listed as low risk.
