Mammillaria carretii is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet honors Mr. Carret, of whom no further data are known.

description

Mammillaria carretii grows individually. The spherical to short cylindrical plant bodies are 5 to 6 centimeters in diameter. The slightly cylindrical, soft-fleshed warts have no milky juice . The axillae are woolly at first, later bare with 1 to 4 bristles. The thorns are finely hairy. There is a hooked, subspine brownish central spine 1.4 to 1.8 centimeters long. The 12 to 14 radial spines are needle-like, slightly curved, yellowish and are up to 1.3 inches long.

The funnel-shaped cream-white flowers have a pink central stripe. They are up to 2.5 inches and 1.5 inches in diameter. The slender green fruits contain brown seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria carretii is common in the Mexican states of Coahuila and Nuevo León .

It was first described in 1898 by Karl Moritz Schumann .
