Mammillaria erythrosperma is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet erythrosperma means 'with red seed'.

description

Mammillaria erythrosperma grows forming cushions. The spherical to short cylindrical, dark green shoots are 4 to 5 centimeters high and 4 to 5 centimeters in diameter. The warts are cylindrical in shape. The axillae are covered with hairy white bristles. The 1 to 3  central spines are yellow with a brownish red tip and up to 1 centimeter long. The bottom one is also often hooked. The 15 to 20 radial spines are thinly white and 0.8 to 1 centimeter long.

The carmine-red flowers are up to 1.5 inches long and large in diameter. The pink fruits are long. They contain dark red to blackish seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria erythrosperma is common in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí .

It was first described in 1918 by Friedrich Bödeker .

Synonyms are the following described species:
Ebnerella erythrosperma (Boed.) Buxb. (1951), Chilita erythrosperma (Boed.) Buxb. (1954, nom. Inval. ICBN -Article 33.3), Krainzia erythrosperma (Boed.) Doweld (2000), Neomammillaria multiformis Britton & Rose (1923) and Mammillaria multiformis (Britton & Rose) Boed. (1933).

Mammillaria erythrosperma is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. classified as not endangered in nature.
