Mammillaria guillauminiana is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the French botanist André Guillaumin (1885–1974).
description
Mammillaria guillauminiana grows individually or in groups and forms a taproot . The spherical light green shoots reach heights of growth of up to 5.5 centimeters and the same diameter. Their warts are conical, the axillae bare. The 4 to 5 brown, up to 6 millimeters long central spines are darker at the tip. The lower central spine is hooked. The 30 to 32 bristle-like white radial spines are 6 to 7 millimeters long.
The white flowers have a pink central stripe, are 8 to 10 millimeters long and reach the same diameter. The red fruits contain black seeds .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Mammillaria guillauminiana is common in the Mexican states of Durango and Sinaloa .
It was first described in 1952 by Curt Backeberg . The following variety has been described as a synonym : Mammillaria mercandensis var. Guillauminiana (Backeb.) Repp. (1987).
Mammillaria guillauminiana was in the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN in 2002 as " Extinct in the Wild (EW) , d". H. classified as extinct in nature. In 2003, however, the species was found in nature by Betty and W. A. Fitz-Maurice. After that, the population was not examined again, so that the species was classified as “ Data Deficient (DD) ” in 2013 . H. is managed with insufficient data.
