Mammillaria duoformis is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet duoformis means 'two shapes'.
description
Mammillaria duoformis usually grows in groups. The shoots are cylindrical in shape. They grow up to 9 inches high and 3 to 4 inches in diameter. The warts do not contain milky juice . Milky juice, on the other hand, is present in the body. The axillae are covered with bristles. The 4 central spines are pink-ocher at the base, blackish brown above. They are 1 to 1.2 centimeters long, the bottom is straight or hooked and a little longer. The 18 to 20 radial spines are slender, needle-like, straight, chalky-white to light yellow near the tip, and below that they are orange-brown. They are 0.5 to 0.7 inches long.
The bright, scarlet flowers are up to 1.5 inches long and up to 1.2 inches in diameter. The light brownish-pink colored fruits contain brown seeds .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Mammillaria duoformis is common in the Mexican states of Morelos , Oaxaca and Puebla .
It was first described in 1948 by Robert T. Craig and Elmer Yale Dawson .
