Mammillaria lenta is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet lenta means '(Latin lentus) tough, slow, sluggish (growing)'.

description

Mammillaria lenta grows branching at the base and forms flat cushions. The spherical to flattened shoots are bright green to yellow-green. They grow to be 1 to 2 inches high and 3 to 5 inches in diameter. The slender, conical-shaped warts are firm and have no milky juice . The axillae are covered with short, persistent wool and some bristles. Central spines are absent. The 30 to 40 radial spines are very fine and dense. They are white to slightly yellow and 3 to 7 millimeters long.

The white flowers have a pink or purple central stripe. They are up to 2 centimeters long and reach a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters. The club-shaped fruits are up to 1 centimeter long. They contain black seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria lenta is common in the Mexican states of Coahuila and Nuevo León .

The first description was in 1905 by Mary Katharine Brandegee . Synonyms are: Chilita lenta (K.Brandegee) Orcutt (1926) and Escobariopsis lenta (K.Brandegee) Doweld (2000).

Mammillaria lenta is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. classified as not endangered in nature.
