Mammillaria matudae is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Mexican botanist of Japanese descent Eizi Matuda .

description

Mammillaria matudae initially grows individually. The individual shoots sprout from the base with age and form larger groups. The plant bodies are cylindrical and 10 to 20 centimeters high and only 3 centimeters in diameter. The axillae are bare. The 18 to 20 radial spines are only between 2 and 3 millimeters long and needle-like. They are translucent white, yellowish at the foot. A central spine appears pointing upwards, needle-like, a bit smooth, brownish with age and is 5 millimeters long. The warts are firm and conical.

Small, funnel-shaped flowers only up to 12 millimeters in size radiate purple-red. The fruits are colored red with green spots. They are up to 12 millimeters in size. The seeds are light brown in color.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria matudae is native to the Mexican states of Guerrero , Mexico and Michoacán and occurs at altitudes between 700 and 1250 meters.

It was first described in 1956 by Helia Bravo Hollis .

Synonyms are the following described species, varieties and forms:
Mammillaria matudae f. duocentralis Fittkau (1971), Mammillaria matudae var. serpentiformis Fittkau (1971) and Mammillaria compacticaulis Repp. (1987).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
