Mammillaria pectinifera is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet pectinifera means 'comb-like'. A Spanish common name is "Conchilinque".

description

Mammillaria pectinifera has a short cylindrical to spherical body with a height of up to 8 centimeters and a diameter of up to 6 centimeters. On the also cylindrical warts sit about 20 to 40 pure white, bristle-like radial spines with a length of 0.2 centimeters, which cover the body like a comb. The axillae are glabrous and the areoles somewhat elongated. The central spines are completely absent. The flowers are 2.5 inches in diameter. They are yellowish white, white, pink or pink with a darker central stripe. The scar is green. The fruits are reddish, small and barely protrude from the spines arranged like a comb. The seeds are black.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria pectinifera occurs in a very limited area in the Mexican state of Puebla near Tehuacán near San Lorenzo at an altitude of approx. 1900 m.

It was first described in 1898 by Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber . Nomenclatory synonyms are Pelecyphora pectinata Stein (1885), Pelecyphora aselliformis var. Pectinifera Rümpl. (1885) and Solisia pectinata (Stein) Britton & Rose (1923).

Mammillaria pectinifera is listed in Appendix I of the Washington Convention on Endangered Species . In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
