Mammillaria sartorii is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Mammillaria sartorii grows in groups. The dark glaucous green shoots are spherical or somewhat elongated with a flat apex. They are up to 10 inches high and 8 to 12 inches in diameter. The closely spaced warts are pyramidal in shape or square from the base. They carry plenty of milky juice . The axillae are covered with dense white to yellow wool and some or even numerous bristles. The 2 to 10 central spines are very variable. Some central central spines are brownish white with a dark brown tip and 1 to 8 millimeters long. Up to 12 radial spines, or sometimes absent, are white and bristle-like with a length of 1 to 2 millimeters.
The light carmine red flowers have a darker central stripe. They measure up to 2 centimeters in length and diameter. The red fruits are up to 1.5 centimeters long. They contain very small brown seeds .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Mammillaria sartorii is common in the Mexican state of Veracruz .
It was first described in 1911 by Joseph Anton Purpus . Synonyms of Mammillaria sartorii J.A.Purpus are Mammillaria sartorii f. brevispina J.A. Purpus (1911), Mammillaria sartorii f. longispina J.A.Purpus (1911), Neomammillaria tenampensis Britton & Rose (1923) and Mammillaria tenampensis (Britton & Rose) A.Berger (1929).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
