Mammillaria zublerae is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Swiss cactus connoisseur Ruth Zubler from Breisach near Basel.

description

Mammillaria zublerae usually branches out and forms large cushions. The green shoots are spherical to cylindrical or club-shaped. They grow to be 2 to 5 inches high and 2 to 4.5 inches in diameter. The soft fleshy warts are conical in shape and do not contain any milky juice . The axillae are covered with yellowish wool. The 5 to 7  central spines are slender, needle-like, straight, downy-haired and glassy yellow. They are 5 to 9 millimeters long. The 20 to 24 fine bristle-like radial spines are straight or curved. They are white with a yellowish tip and are 4 to 7 millimeters long.

The pure yellow flowers measure 1.5 centimeters in length and diameter. The fruits are bright red. They contain black seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria zublerae is common in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas .

It was first described in 1987 by Werner Reppenhagen . Synonyms of Mammillaria zublerae Repp. are Mammillaria prolifera subsp. zublerae (Repp.) DRHunt (1997) and Escobariopsis prolifera subsp. zublerae (Rep.) Doweld (2000).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
