Mandibular ganglion

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mandibular ganglion ( ganglion mandibulare ) is a nerve cell node ( ganglion ) in the nervous system of crustaceans , millipedes and native insects . It is one of the ganglia of the rope ladder nervous system as a feature of the arthropod .

The mandibular ganglion is one of the three anterior ganglion pairs through which the mouthparts are supplied; it is also the labial ganglion (ganglion labiale) or the homologous ganglion of the 2nd maxilla in crustaceans and the maxillary ganglion (ganglion maxillary). In higher insects, the three single ganglia merge to form the subterranean ganglion .
