Allen Ludden (* 5. October 1917 in Mineral Point , Wisconsin as all Ellsworth ; † 9. June 1981 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American presenter and actor .

Life

Allen Ludden studied English and Acting at the University of Texas and graduated in 1940. During the 1940s and 1950s, Ludden worked for radio and various youth magazines. He received a Peabody Award in 1950 for his radio show Mind Your Manners . In October 1961 he went on television with the quiz show Password . Password became very successful and ran intermittently until 1975. The concept was used again by NBC in the 1980s. The last new edition was produced by CBS in 2007/2008 with moderator Regis Philbin .

Allen Ludden was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his services to television . The star was let in at 6743 Hollywood Boulevard , next to that of his second wife, Betty White.

In 1943 Allen Ludden married Margaret McGloin, with whom he had three children. The marriage of the two ended after 18 years with Margaret's death from cancer in October 1961.

After asking for her hand twice, Allen Ludden married actress Betty White in June 1963 , whom he met on his Password show . Shortly before their 18th wedding anniversary, Allen Ludden died of gastric cancer in June 1981 .
