Origin and history

How long this variant of Podenco Andaluz has been around cannot be said with certainty; however, there are old paintings and photographs from the 19th century. In the provinces of Cádiz and Málaga , where the Maneto originated, it has a reputation for being an excellent hunting dog, especially for rabbits. Like the long-legged Podencos, the Maneto is a very team-minded, bright character with an extreme passion for hunting.

description

The narrow head of the Maneto has the shape of a cone and is half as wide as it is long. It only has a slightly pronounced stop . The color of the nose and lips varies from honey to buff. The Maneto has large erect ears that can also be folded. The legs are short and very muscular. The dog has a shoulder height of approx. 35 cm and a weight of approx. 11.5 kg. The back is rounded. Permitted colors are cinnamon to red and a little white.

Essence

The Maneto is considered a very courageous fighter on the hunt who is not afraid of any construction or bushes. He is reserved and cautious about strangers. He is considered a headstrong dog, which is difficult to train to obedience. The dog should instinctively know what its job is and cooperate with the pack .
