Mile Kitić

Milojko "Mile" Kitić (born January 1, 1952 in Donji Cerani, near Derventa , SFR Yugoslavia , today Bosnia and Herzegovina ) is a Bosnian-Herzegovinian turbo folk singer. He is considered one of the most successful and famous singers in the Balkans .

Origins & beginnings in the music scene

He was born as Milojko Kitić near Derventa in Bosnia. At the age of 13 he moved to Ilijaš , where he still owns two houses today. During the Yugoslav wars he fled from Ilijaš to Belgrade . His nephew died in the war, which hit his family and him very hard. In Belgrade he got used to the Ekavian dialect (mainly spoken in Serbia).

Mile Kitić has been involved with music since his school days. He was a double bass player in the school orchestra at the time. In 1968, at the age of 16, Mile Kitić won the “Prvi glas Vogošca” festival with the song U svijetu sam život ostavio ( I left my life in the world ).

When he recorded his first single O gitaro in 1974 , he sang in the most expensive bars in Sarajevo . 1974–1980 he played electric guitar in his band “Princevi”. The band named itself after a car, the NSU Prinz , which was also manufactured in Yugoslavia in the 1970s.

He was able to record another success in 1980 at the Ilidža Music Festival , when he took first place with the song Ljubavi nema više ( There is no more love ). The song can also be found on his LP album Mala iz Novog Pazara, which was also released in 1980 .

By early 1980 he brought out a total of 6 singles with two titles each.

Career

He released his first studio album in 1982 with Moja slatka mala ( My sweet little one ... ). In 1983, the album Jorgovani plavi ( blue lilac ) followed in collaboration with producer Dragan Stojkovic Bosanac . However, both albums were only moderately successful, he found it difficult to gain a foothold in the music scene and considered ending his career.

In 1984, on the advice of his friend and music colleague Sinan Sakic, he began working with the band Juzni Vetar and their producer and leader Miodrag M. Ilic. This also resulted in his first commercially successful album "Casa ljubavi" ( A glass full of love ). He made his final breakthrough in 1985 with the album and the hit single of the same name Ja neću ljepšu ( I don't want anyone more beautiful ). During this time he also sang numerous songs with his colleagues Sinan Sakić , Kemal Malovčić , Dragana Mirković and Šemsa Suljaković (e.g. Nek puknu dusmani , 1987 or Mi se volimo ). Ten more albums followed with Juzni Vetar with other successful hits such as Kockar (1986), Mogao sam biti car (1987), Osvetnik (1989) or Moj sokole (1994).

His fans consider the period from 1984 to 1995 to be Kitić's musically strongest phase. Not least because he recorded a total of twelve albums with Juzni Vetar during this period . Even today, the songs from this time are considered to be his most sought-after at various concerts and are also very popular with younger generations.

After his album Okreni jastuk ( Turn the pillow around , 1995) Kitić ended the collaboration with Juzni Vetar. According to his own statements, he wanted to make more modern music and so in 1996 he went to the record company of the Serbian radio station “PGP-RTS”. There he recorded the two albums Ratnik za ljubav ( A warrior for love , 1996) and Ostaj ovde ( Stay here , 1997), which were more pop-heavy compared to the Juzni Vetar era.

In 1998 he switched to the newly founded record company Grand Production (formerly “ZaM”), where he promoted his album “Do sreće daleko, do boga visoko” ( Up to happiness so far, up to God so high ) through numerous marketing campaigns and guest appearances. made. In 1999 he had another hit with the title “Tri života” ( Three Lives ), also in 2000 with “Zlato, Srebro, Dukati” ( gold, silver, ducats ) and in 2004 with “Zemljotres” ( earthquake ). After he released the album Šampanjac ( champagne ) in 2006, things grew quiet around him for a long time. Only when he released the two single releases Cetri Strane Sveta (4 Pages of the World) with the band Djogani and Šanker ( bartender ) in the summer of 2008 did it become an issue again. Finally, shortly afterwards, in autumn 2008, he brought out the album Šanker . During the time of his tours he has guest appearances and concerts in discos around the world.

Originally for autumn 2011 he announced the album Paklene godine ( Infernal Years ) in a spot . The album was preceded by two single releases ( Ludnica na balkanu , in July 2011 and Nosices me ti na dusi , in September 2011). At the end of 2011 the complete album was finally released.

In the spring of 2013 he brought out two new singles - Limuzina in March 2013 and Lenka in April 2013. While Limuzina stands out with its fast rhythms and many hits from pop and techno music, Lenka is a slower track in the traditional style, in which the piano and the accordion predominate. This is how Mile Kitic reacts to the frequent allegations that he has been subordinate to commerce in recent years - mostly since he switched to Grand Production - as a result of which the quality of his music has deteriorated and the lyrics are less demanding than before. Kitic himself often defends himself by saying that he has to meet the taste of the majority and adapt his music to the times.

From the end of 2013 he released each track of his planned 2014 album Nokaut ("Knockout") individually. The album consists of 8 new tracks in different musical styles as well as the two above mentioned tracks Limuzina and Lenka from 2013. The complete album was released in March 2014 and has been available in stores since then.

In spring 2015 he released the songs "Pijana Budala" and "Bol" as the first single releases for his new album. In the course of the year he brought out seven further single releases, most recently the song "Madjionicar" on New Year's Eve 2015. The album of the same name was released in early 2016.

He has a daughter from his first marriage to his wife. Today he lives with his second wife Marta Savić (also a singer) and his second daughter in Belgrade and has a second home in Hanover . He is a grandfather of two thanks to his first daughter.

Mile Kitić sang his songs in the Ijekavian dialect until 1991 , from 1992 he sings in both the Ekavian and Ijekavian dialect.

In addition to Bosnian-Herzegovinian citizenship, Kitić also has Serbian citizenship.

With 33 albums published so far since 1974, he is considered one of the most experienced and best-paid singers in the ex-Yugoslav region. Some of his music is also popular in Romania and Bulgaria, and his name is also well known there. For example, he performed in Sofia in October 2016 in front of around 20,000 spectators.
