Manfred Auster

Manfred Auster (born August 19, 1960 in Berlin ) is a German diplomat . From 2016 to 2020 he was the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Haiti .

Life

After graduating from high school in Berlin in 1980, Auster began studying law at the Free University of Berlin , which he completed in 1986 with the first state examination in law. Afterwards he was in the legal preparatory service at the Berlin Higher Regional Court and passed the second state examination in 1989. In 1990 he began his preparatory service for the higher foreign service and, after completing his attaché training in 1991, was initially employed in the delegation for the negotiations on the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces (VKSE) and the Treaty on Open Skies in Vienna . Subsequently, he was political advisor at the embassy in Ukraine between 1992 and 1994 and economic, scientific and environmental advisor at the embassy in Australia from 1994 to 1997 and as such was also the German representative at the Convention for the Protection of Living Antarctic Marine Resources (CCAMLR ).

After his return, Auster was a consultant in the cultural department of the Foreign Office in Berlin between 1997 and 2000 and then from 2000 to 2002 economic consultant at the embassy in Hungary , where he was also a representative at the Danube Commission . Thereupon he was employed between 2002 and 2005 at the permanent representation of Germany to NATO in Brussels and at the same time as a representative there in the Political Committee. From 2005 to 2009 he was Head of Unit E 14 (Relations with the European Parliament) in the Federal Foreign Office and then between 2009 and 2010 an exchange officer at the Canadian Foreign Ministry in Ottawa . He then stayed in Ottawa, where he was head of the economic department at the embassy in Canada from 2010 to 2012 and then deputy head of the European Union delegation in Ottawa between 2012 and 2016 .

In the summer of 2016, Auster replaced Klaus Peter Schick as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Haiti . He stayed in this post until July 2020.

Manfred Auster is married and has two children.
