Manfred Geis (born December 27, 1949 in Ellerstadt ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1998 to 2019 he was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament . On March 13, 2016, he won the direct mandate in constituency 41 (Bad Dürkheim) for the fourth time in a row .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1968, Geis studied political science, history and German studies at the University of Mannheim on a scholarship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation . After graduating in 1975, he was employed there as a research assistant until 1980. From 1980 to 2002 he was managing director of the SPD district Palatinate, from 1989 to 1994 culture department of the city of Bad Dürkheim. In 1998 he became a successor member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament. In the next four state elections ( 2001 , 2006 , 2011 and 2016 ) he won the constituency of Bad Dürkheim as a direct candidate. In the state parliament he was chairman of the committee for science, further education and culture since 2001. He was also a member of the committee for European issues and One World and spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group for "One World" policy.

Geis is married and has two grown sons.

In 1969 Geis joined the SPD and from 1975 exercised various party functions. From 1979 to 1989 and again from 2004 to 2014 he was city ​​councilor of Bad Dürkheim .

Since 1999 he has been a member of the Palatinate District Assembly .

Geis is a member of the board of directors of the Social Democratic Cultural Forum with a focus on cultural education, state cultural policy in Rhineland-Palatinate and culture "in conversation".
