Manfred Gerigk

Manfred Gerigk OP (born October 16, 1934 in Danzig ) is a German composer , organist and Dominican .

Life

Manfred Gerigk attended grammar school in Oldenburg (Lower Saxony) after the Second World War . He studied composition as an autodidact . These studies were initially accompanied by Werner Grünberg, his music teacher at the grammar school, he also took violin lessons with Volkmar Flecken (concert master of the Oldenburg State Orchestra), and later he studied organ with Otto Dunkelberg , the former cathedral organist in Passau.

Professional activity

In 1963 Father Gerigk went to Bolivia as a missionary for 36 years . There he received a professorship in school music and theory at the Santa Cruz College of Education . Gerigk's musical oeuvre includes a rich piano work, orchestral works, choral works and chamber music. The composer says: “For me, music is a game that I enjoy. I would like to share in this joy. Life is joyless enough by itself. There is no need for gnashing desperate music. That is my humble musical credo. "
