Manfred Gsteiger

Manfred Gsteiger (born June 7, 1930 in Twann , Canton of Bern ) is a Swiss poet , novelist , essayist , literary scholar and translator .

Life

Gsteiger studied Romance languages at the University of Bern and at the Paris Sorbonne . He received his doctorate in 1958 with a thesis on Chrétien de Troyes . From 1967 he was a lecturer in literature at the University of Neuchâtel . Gsteiger was primarily concerned with German and French-language Swiss literature . As a translator, he worked on French works from the 13th to the 20th century.

In 1956 he married the ceramicist Pierrette Favarger (1924–2015).
