Manfred Hagen

Manfred Hagen (born April 2, 1934 in Dresden ) is a German historian .

Life

Hagen completed a degree in history in Halle and Göttingen, which he completed in 1959 with the 1st state examination. Afterwards he entered the school service as a trainee lawyer. The second state examination followed in 1961, and in the following year Hagen was awarded a doctorate in Göttingen with a study on “The problem of nationalities in Russia in the 3rd Duma from 1907 to 1911”. phil. PhD. Hagen stayed in school for almost ten years before he switched to the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen as a professor in 1968 . In 1980, Hagen completed his habilitation with a study on the “Development of the Political Public in Russia”. Until his retirement he taught in Göttingen as a professor of modern and Russian history.

Hagen's main research interests include Russian history, especially in the period before the rule of the Bolsheviks and Germany after 1945.He also participated in various attempts at school and university reform and worked on the editing of film source editions in cooperation with the Institute for Scientific Research Film in Göttingen.
