Manfred Kops

Manfred Kops (born May 30, 1950 in Cologne ) is a German economist .

Live and act

Manfred Kops studied economics , sociology and computer science from 1968 to 1976 at the University of Bonn , the University of Cologne and the Pennsylvania State University , USA . From 1976 - 1986 he was a research assistant at the University of Cologne. In 1982 he did his doctorate there with a thesis on "The regional distribution effects of municipal financial equalization ". From 1987 he worked as a consultant for the Society for Technical Cooperation , the Federal Association of German Banks, and had lectureships and professorial positions at the Universities of Cologne and Trier . Between 1992 and 2013 he was managing director of the Institute for Broadcasting Economics at the University of Cologne, where he lectured in broadcasting economics. Kops publishes the series "Working Papers of the Institute for Broadcasting Economics", the "Writings of the Cologne Initiatives Group for Public Broadcasting" and, as co-editor, the series "Writings on Broadcasting Economics" and "Cologne Writings on Media Economics". Between 1997 and 2012 he was chairman of the Cologne Public Broadcasting Initiative, and between 2000 and 2013 he was a member of the board of the "European Alliance of Listeners 'and Viewers' Associations". Between 2011 and 2014 member of the advisory board of Medienwirtschaft magazine . Since January 2016 visiting professor at Ryerson University Toronto .

His main research interests are federalism theory , public finance , media economics and media systems .
