Manfred Neitzel

Manfred Neitzel (* July 5, 1934 ; † January 24, 2022 in Kaiserslautern ) was a professor of mechanical and process engineering at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern , as well as the founding director and long-time head of the Institute for Composite Materials , which today belongs to the Leibniz Association .

biography

Neitzel studied mechanical engineering and received his doctorate in 1965 from the TH Hannover . In 1968 he habilitated on the subject of "composite materials in pressure vessel construction". From 1969 he worked at BASF , where he set up a working group in the research area of ​​composite materials. In 1990, Neitzel took over the management of the newly founded Institute for Composite Materials (IVW GmbH). In particular, he expanded the areas of processing technology and thermoplastic composites . Neitzel retired at the end of 2002.

He gave lectures on plastics and composite materials in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and supervised numerous doctoral theses. Neitzel was also co-author and editor of several textbooks.

Manfred Neitzel died on January 24, 2022 at the age of 87 in Kaiserslautern.

Award

Prime Minister Kurt Beck presented Neitzel with the Order of Merit of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate on 20 November 2002 in Mainz .
