Two police officers were killed in the Kusel district on January 31, 2022. A police officer and a police candidate were shot dead during a vehicle check.

On the night of January 31, 2022, three police vehicles from the West Palatinate police headquarters , one civilian and two patrol cars, were on the road between the towns of Ulmet and Blaubach in Rhineland-Palatinate on the border with Saarland , looking for a burglar.
