Manfred Niehuis

Manfred Niehuis (born March 20, 1944 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a German biologist , in particular an entomologist , university professor , specialist author and editor of the journal Fauna and Flora in Rhineland-Palatinate . He teaches and lives in Landau in the Palatinate . Manfred Niehuis is married to Ursula Niehuis. They have a son and a daughter.

Live and act

Niehuis studied biology and chemistry at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . His state examination thesis dealt with the fluctuations in the population of the black-fronted shrike in Germany . His subsequent doctorate with H. Risler dealt with the head morphology of Ricinus elongatus (Mallophaga) .

Since 1971 Manfred Niehuis has been teaching as academic director at the Institute for Biology at the University of Koblenz-Landau , Landau department. As part of his research into the jewel beetle family , he discovered and described more than 20 new species and subspecies.

He has published his research in over 180 publications.

Honors

  • Due to the high scientific recognition especially of his beetle research, some entomologists have immortalized his name in scientific names of newly discovered species. In particular, when found in North Africa Prachtkäfer Niehuisia maghrebica (Curletti, 1995), the jewel beetle Athaxia niehuisi (BRANDL, 1987), the longhorn beetle Chlorophorus niehuisi (ADEL Baur, 1992), the beetle Xanthopenthes niehuisi (MOLD, 1999) and the plant Wasp Pseudorussus niehuisiorum ( KRAUSS, 1998).
