Manfred Regitz
Manfred Regitz (born August 20, 1935 in Karlsbrunn ) is a German chemist ( organic chemistry ).
Regitz studied chemistry from 1955 at the University of Heidelberg and from 1958 at the University of Saarbrücken with a diploma in 1960 and a doctorate in 1962 with Bernd Eistert (experiments with ketosulfides and ketosulfones). In 1965 he completed his habilitation in Saarbrücken (on the direct introduction of the diazo group into CH-active compounds through diazo group transfer) and was then senior assistant and in 1969 an extraordinary professor. In 1971 he became a full professor at the University of Kaiserslautern . In 1975 he was dean of the chemistry department and vice-president of the university from 1975 to 1981, responsible for construction and development.
He was visiting professor in Aarhus, Rennes, Toulouse, Metz, Oviedo, the École polytechnique and at IBM in San Jose.
The Regitz diazo transfer is named after him.
He was one of the editors of the Römpp Chemie Lexikon (since 1987) and of the Houben-Weyl (since 1978) and its successor Science of Synthesis. He was one of the editors of Synthesis since 1989, and from 1993 to 1997 he was the chief editor.
In 1971 he became honorary professor in Saarbrücken and in 1999 in Saint Petersburg. In 1999 he received the Adolf von Baeyer Memorial Medal and in 1988 the Franco-German Alexander von Humboldt Prize. In 1994 he became a member of the Leopoldina . From 1996 he was on the board of trustees of the Fonds der Chemischen Industrie.
