Manfred Sauer (born November 20, 1960 in Bernstein in Burgenland ) is a Lutheran theologian.

Sauer studied theology in Vienna and Hamburg , was vicar in Zell am See and Pörtschach and became pastor in Pörtschach in 1987. On January 1st, 2002 he followed Joachim Rathke as superintendent of the diocese of Carinthia / East Tyrol of the Lutheran Evangelical Church AB in Austria .

Manfred Sauer has been married to Renate (née Lentz, also a theologian ) since 1985 , and they have four children, Jakob, Paul, Gregor and Eva.

In November 2008, Manfred Sauer wrote a pastoral letter on the death of the Carinthian governor Jörg Haider . In it he praised the politician in very personal words. The public reaction to this was divided. In response, the former Evangelical Superintendent Gertraud Knoll announced that she was leaving the Evangelical Church.

In 2014 he received the city's ring of honor from the city of Villach.
