Manfred Schneider (geodesist)

Manfred Schneider (born August 20, 1935 in Regensburg ; † March 31, 2016 in Regensburg) was a German geodesist and was a university professor at the Technical University of Munich .

Life

He was instrumental in founding the satellite geodesy research group in Munich and in setting up the astro-geodetic fundamental station in Wettzell . He is the author of several specialist books on satellite geodesy and celestial mechanics .

Schneider graduated in 1966 with a Dr. rer. nat., completed his habilitation around 1975 and then held the extraordinary position for satellite geodesy at the Technical University of Munich for over 20 years. In 1999 he was followed by Markus Rothacher .
