Manfred Siering (born November 10, 1946 in Munich ) is a German conservationist .

Life

Siering has been fascinated by the bird world since his youth. The trained banker initially worked at a Spanish bank before becoming managing director of the State Association for Bird Protection in Bavaria (LBV) in 1978 .

After three years in Hilpoltstein, Siering moved to Munich, where he worked at the Munich wholesale market hall until his retirement , most recently in the public sector.

In 1972 he became a member of the Ornithological Society in Bavaria eV, founded in 1897

At first he worked there as secretary and as deputy first chairman. Since 1996 he has been the chairman of the Ornithological Society in Bavaria

He has been an active member of the LBV for decades. Since 1985 he has headed the Grünwald-Straßlach-Dingharting branch of the Bund Naturschutz in Bayern eV (BN), where he is also responsible for public relations.

Through excursions, interviews and lectures he inspires many people for the protection of nature and explains interesting facts about the relationships between living things, ecology and habitats. For example, he has been a lecturer in natural history at the Munich Adult Education Center since 1967 . He is also a freelancer in the ornithology section of the Munich State Zoological Collection .

He cooperates with many institutions and is considered a knowledgeable advisor to nature conservation authorities. For decades, for example, he has been campaigning for the preservation of the European reserve “ Ismaninger Speichersee ” - together with the Bavarian Nature Conservation Fund, the higher nature conservation authority of the government of Upper Bavaria and the area management.

In addition, Siering has prepared numerous expert reports and statements in connection with the involvement of the public authorities in nature conservation procedures and land-use planning procedures.

He also leads annual nature and ornithological trips such as to Costa Rica, Colombia, Nicaragua, Panama, Mexico, Vietnam, Myanmar, India, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Jordan, Turkey, Turkish Aegean, Eastern Pontic Mountains, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Egypt and Sinai, Spain, Angola and Namibia, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Senegal (Casamance) or Tanzania, where he always proves to be an excellent species expert.

Manfred Siering has been deputy chairman of the BN district group in Munich since 2014.

honors and awards

In 2009, Siering was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . In the laudation, the then Bavarian State Minister for Environment and Health, Markus Söder , emphasized the great personal dedication with which the honored ornithologist, as a volunteer ornithologist, did a lot of service to our living space in a variety of ways.

In 2014 he was awarded the Bavarian Nature Conservation Medal.
