Manfred Zeuner

Manfred Zeuner (born May 5, 1938 ) is a former officer of the German People's Police (VP). From 1985 to 1990 he was chief of the transport police (Trapo).

Life

Zeuner learned the profession of a locomotive fitter. He became a member of the SED and in 1956 a member of the German People's Police. He came to the transport police and attended the transport police school in 1958/59. From 1959 to 1961 he was shift supervisor and from 1962 to 1965 a training officer in the Trapo section in Dresden. From 1966 to 1971 he acted as district manager of the Trapo Riesa and from 1974 to 1979 as head of the Trapo section in Dresden. In 1979 he began studying for several years at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR . Subsequently, in 1981 he was appointed as Colonel VP, Deputy Head of the Transport Police Department of the Ministry of the Interior (MdI) , in 1982 with the management of official business and in 1985 appointed as Head of the HA Transport Police (successor to Manfred Simon ). He was also a member of the editorial board of the magazine "Die Volkspolizei" .

On June 30, 1986, he was appointed major general by Erich Honecker . Under his command, the Trapo's personnel were reduced from 6,400 to around 2,000 men in 1990, and 1,700 transport police officers were taken over by the East German border guard . When the Trapo was dissolved on September 30, 1990, he resigned from the police force.
