Dagur Bergþóruson Eggertsson (born June 19, 1972 in Oslo ) is an Icelandic politician ( Alliance ). He was Mayor of Reykjavík from October 16, 2007 to January 21, 2008 and has held this office again since June 17, 2014.

Life

Dagur grew up in Árbæjarhverfi , a district of Reykjavík. He is a doctor and has worked at the National University Hospital of Iceland Landspítali . Before that he worked, among other things, from 1995 to 1998 at the radio station Rás 1 of the public service broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið in the program planning for scientific topics. In addition to his medical degree (from the University of Iceland , 1999), he also received a Masters in Human and International Law from Lund University , Sweden , in 2005 .

In 2002 Dagur was elected to Reykjavík City Council. His first term as mayor began on October 16, 2007, but ended abruptly on January 21, 2008 when his coalition between the Alliance, the Left-Green Movement , the Progress Party and the Liberal Party broke up. The end of the coalition after just 102 days was due to the liberal councilor Ólafur F. Magnússon , who formed a new coalition with the Independence Party and took over the office of mayor.

From 2009 to 2013, Dagur B. Eggertsson was Allianz's vice chairman. In the city council of Reykjavík he was from 2010 to 2014 chairman of the coalition between Alliance and Besti flokkurinn ("Best Party"), the latter party with Jón Gnarr as the mayor. After Allianz won the local elections on May 31, 2014, Dagur formed a coalition between Allianz, the Left-Green Movement, the Icelandic pirate party Píratar and Björt framtíð ("Bright Future"), the successor party to the Besti flokkurinn. He took office on June 17, 2014 as the successor to Jón Gnarr, who was no longer running for election. After the local elections on May 26, 2018, a coalition was formed between Allianz, Píratar, the left-green movement and the liberal “reform party” Viðreisn , founded in 2016 . Dagur remains in the office of mayor.

He is the author of the biography of Steingrímur Hermannsson (1928-2010, two-time Prime Minister of Iceland ), which was published in three volumes from 1998 to 2000.
