Manfred Simon

Manfred Simon (born June 19, 1931 in Frankfurt (Oder) ; † September 11, 2015 in Friedersdorf (Heidesee) ) was an officer in the German People's Police (VP). From 1972 to 1985 he was chief of the transport police (Trapo).

Life

Simon learned the trade of a carpenter. In 1949 he became a member of the German People's Police and joined the transport police. From 1953 to 1961 he was head of the operational staff at Trapo. In 1954 he became a member of the SED . He studied from 1960 to 1964 at the VP University with a degree in political science and was then responsible for travel at Trapo. From 1967 to 1970 he was Colonel of the VP 1st Deputy Head of the Main Department (HA) Transport Police of the Ministry of the Interior (MdI) , from 1970 acting head and from 1972 to May 1985 head of the HA Transport Police (successor to Major General Helmut Nedwig ) . At the 70th meeting of the National Defense Council of the GDR on May 31, 1985, he was relieved of his post as a result of taking on another role in the MdI (he became head of the MdI's control inspection) and Manfred Zeuner was appointed his successor.

On June 30, 1978, he was appointed major general by Erich Honecker . Simon was also the chairman of the Dynamo Nordwest Berlin sports association . During the reunification in the GDR he was sent to Dessau on January 31, 1990 as an agent of the Modrow government in order to prevent the planned destruction action of weapons of the combat group units through the round table , which the round table in Dessau had decided the day before. Simon could not prevail and finally had to agree to the destruction of the combat group weapons by the NVA pioneer unit stationed in Dessau-Alten .

Simon was a member of the Society for Legal and Humanitarian Support and most recently lived in Friedersdorf. He died at the age of 84.
