Mangaldai is a city in the Indian state of Assam . The city lies on the north bank of the Brahmaputra .
The city is the capital of the Darrang district . Mangaldai has the status of a municipal board . The city is divided into 10 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census it had 25,989 inhabitants, of whom 13,362 were men and 12,627 women. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 71%. Muslims form a minority of over 27%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 91.9%, well above the national average. 14.8% belong to the Scheduled Tribes .
