Manhunt - hunt for Joel Lambert (original title: Lone Target ) is a Survival - television series of the Discovery Channel , in which the ex- soldier Joel Lambert various special units of the world challenges you to chase him. The protagonist must reach the target point within a specified period of time without being caught by his hunters.

This is the principle of a military penetration exercise and is comparable to a paper chase , in which the person being pursued does not intentionally leave behind any clues, but tries to avoid traces as much as possible and to mislead the pursuers.

Procedure and plot

At the beginning of each episode, the protagonist Joel Lambert is given a rucksack with a few items of equipment that should help him shake off the pursuers and survive in the wild , such as a knife , a piece of string , a rain jacket or a fog pot . Depending on the episode, forest areas , steppes , jungle areas or even a large city serve as the play environment.

The pursuers are various paramilitary units and police units that operate in the respective area. Although DMAX emphasizes that these are "the best units in the world", which is basically a subjective assessment, the participating units are relatively unknown. So far, no globally renowned units such as the British SAS , the German combat swimmers or the French GIGN have been challenged.

The units are basically armed according to their operational equipment, but never use their weapons against the pursued Joel Lambert (which would be possible in the context of a non-lethal combat simulation using AGDUS , MILES or color cartridges), and in real life against fleeing soldiers or poachers. Lambert, on the other hand, is unarmed and only has limited equipment such as a knife, little water, little food supplies and, in some "missions", smoke and pop cartridges as hidden loads in his backpack. In order not to endanger himself and his "pursuers", but also as in a real mission, the ex- Navy Seal soldier does not use any knowledge of military close combat , but moves purely defensively .

The plot is partially recreated, which is due to the concept as a television broadcast. Both the pursuers and the persecuted are accompanied by a cameraman , with whom the protagonists communicate and to whom they explain the next steps - often in a whisper in the immediate vicinity of the other person . Such behavior would be absurd in a real hunt as it would give the opponent an advantage. Furthermore, a camera team would undermine the entire camouflage, for example if the protagonist is in cover or the pursuers want to sneak up on it.

In each episode, an arc of suspense is built up in that the pursuers often come within a few meters of Joel Lambert at the beginning of the program, but then he escapes initially. If he is caught anyway, this only happens at the end of the episode, which ends it. So far it was u. a. to present him to the Polish border guards after a simulated border crossing after an escape in front of his destination.

In the credits it is then shown how the persecutor and the persecuted meet on friendly terms and express mutual respect. This makes it clear to the viewer once again, despite the sometimes martial appearance in the series, that it was a friendly competition.

In Germany, this series has been broadcast on DMAX since May 2014 .
